Health & Wellbeing

For many years I have tried to live as healthily as possible, from healthy eating to looking after myself in general with regular exercise etc, even changing my main hobby from motorcycle racing to hiking, and to be honest I’m much happier for it. Racing was pretty stressful and could be frustrating, especially if you didn’t get the results you wanted, I found myself going back to work feeling anxious, drained battered and bruised. In 2020 I was riding my Fireblade on the public highway and was taken out by a rookie trying to race me, clipped my bars, went down at 82mph.. no leathers! fortunately, I made a good recovery.

My Lifestyle Choices

  • I have my own little gym, where I do a few hours a week, I know it’s not much but it does make a difference. In addition during the summer months I tend to ride at least 3 miles a day on my ebike, however I’m thinking of swapping this for more weight training.
  • It’s nice to take time to be with your partner, even on a work day. For example, eating dinner together at a set time each day . PS, I will never eat food on my lap in front of the TV!
  • I’ve found that learning a new life skill is a great way to improve your health and wellbeing. Continued learning encourages social interaction and a more active life. It’s important not to put too much pressure on yourself though. Learning isn’t just about completing qualifications, it’s about finding what suits you and getting enjoyment out of it.
  • Working on a DIY project, I watch YouTube tutorials and join Facebook groups to teach myself how to work, build or fix something around the home.
  • I try not to spend too much time watching TV. I know it’s difficult during the winter months, but I much prefer to interact by organising and scheduling a regular exercise activity. A gym class a couple of nights a week perhaps. Walking in the woods if it’s not raining.
  • Just like the point above, I try not to spend too much time on social media. It’s easy to fall into a habit of scrolling, texting, messaging everyday, the important thing is to interact and talk with people in person, or even just over the phone.
  • I would like to learn how to cook properly, If I could master 12 recopies I would be happy. just need someone to teach me, not going to YouTube for this one!
